A Venezuelan opposition leader challenged the Human Rights Council on Thursday over the fact the Maduro regime was a member of the U.N.’s top rights body despite its egregious violations, prompting the council’s presiding officer –Sudan’s ambassador – to call on participants to “uphold U.N. standards when referring to countries and to refrain from using words like the ones we have just heard.”
