Former Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation as part of a panel of book authors, portrayed the Trump-led America as burdened by the worst characteristics of the nation which rise and fall through U.S. history. “Now we face this wildly unconventional president,” he warned, so “the task” is to get these bad forces, which are now “flowing” –  “xenophobia, extremism, racism, nativism, isolationism” – to “ebb.”
