Sullivan Downplays Election of US-Sanctioned Rights Abuser as Iran’s President, Focuses on Nuclear Deal

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Sunday played down the importance of the individual elected as Iran’s next president – a U.S.-sanctioned judicial chief accused of mass rights abuses. He said that as the U.S. pursues a return to the nuclear deal, “whether the president is person A or person B is less relevant than whether their entire system is prepared to make verifiable commitments to constrain their nuclear program.”
