Tim Scott (R-S.C.), the first African-American senator to serve in the South since Reconstruction, said Wednesday that he has been stopped seven times by law enforcement in one year while serving in Congress – including while trying to enter a building on Capitol Hill by officers who did not believe he was a senator.
