Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, long a media favorite for serving as an antagonist to conservatives in his party, earned the ire of prolific journalist John Heilmann when Graham stood up for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and lashed out at liberals for trying to take him down.

On his weekly Showtime program, The Circus, Heilemann regretted the possibility that the Senate Judiciary Committee, by “turning it into a giant partisan food fight and, by Lindsey Graham acting like a f---ing lunatic,” maybe “they fold to Donald Trump again.”

From the September 30 edition of the show, in a segment recorded Thursday night, September 27 at the Tune Inn in Washington, DC, as Heilemann sat with co-hosts Mark McKinnon and Alex Wagner:

“All of them have talked a big anti-Trump game at various times, but in the end, normally when the chips are down, they end up voting with Donald Trump. If I’m being cynical, I look at this and go: ‘Maybe by turning it into a giant partisan food fight and, by Lindsey Graham acting like a fucking lunatic and all that, maybe it’s enough and they fold to Donald Trump again.”
