Asked about his outburst at the June 14 White House press briefing, where he spoke out of turn and lectured press secretary Sarah Sanders about the detention policy for illegal immigrants, Brian Karem apologized – but only for not being more anti-Trump sooner.

On Sunday’s Reliable Sources on CNN, Karem asserted that “I’m sorry to those people for waiting so long and holding my temper” and “I’m sorry that I am extremely angry with this administration that has lied to me.”

Karem, a CNN political analyst who also writes for Playboy and the Sentinel Newspapers in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, had this exchange with CNN host Brian Stelter:

BRIAN STELTER: Well Brian, this brings us to your outburst at Thursday’s briefing. I don’t know if you’d call it an outburst, but I would. Here’s part of what happened there.”

KAREM, AT WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING: Come on, Sarah! You’re a parent! Don’t you have any empathy for what these people are going through? They have less than you do.

SARAH SANDERS: Brian! Guys, settle down!

KAREM: Seriously! Seriously!

SANDERS: I’m trying to be serious, but I’m not going to have you yell out of turn.

STELTER, BACK LIVE: Do you regret losing your cool, Brian?

KAREM: I have an apology to make. I apologize to every human being who’s had to suffer, who have less -- who has less than I do and I did not come to the table sooner. I’m sorry to those people for waiting so long and holding my temper. I’m sorry that I am extremely angry with this administration that has lied to me, continues to lie to me. I’m sorry as a reporter that for so long I thought that the idea was to -- I was struggling so hard to do my job, I forgot that my job is to comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable and ask questions for those who have no voice.
