The opening of David Letterman’s The Late Show isn’t one we will soon forget. It opens with President Ford announcing, “My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.” Then follow Presidents Bush, George Bush, Clinton and Obama all repeating that the national nightmare is over. Obama closes with “Letterman is retiring” - and David Letterman’s reaction is hysterical.

About 30 minutes before David Letterman’s final The Late Show aired, Conan O’Brien gave a heartfelt speech on the positive impact Letterman had on modern comedy and, in particular, on himself. Afterwards, just as Letterman went live, Conan used extreme gestures to tell audience they should switch over to watching the Letterman finale.
