Peter Wang was an extraordinary 15-year-old high school student who was a member of the JROTC program at his school. The school? Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Because of his bravery, a notable classmate of Wang’s wants him to posthumously be awarded the highest honor a civilian can receive in the U.S.
Conservative and Director of High School Outreach for Turning Point USA Kyle Kashuv started a petition on the White House’s website asking President Trump to award Wang the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The petition states:
My name is Kyle Kashuv; last year I was a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where a tragic shooting took place on February 14, 2018. One of the victims, Peter Wang, died trying to save my classmates.
His dream was to become a soldier and was buried in his Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) uniform. He was even wearing a JROTC shirt the day of the shooting

Let's please join together, cross party lines, and ask President of the United States, Donald Trump,to posthumously award Peter the Presidential Medal of Freedom
The petition was posted on November 22nd and it asked for 100,000 signatures in order to get the attention of the president. As of this writing, the petition has received over 113,000 signatures.
As Kashuv noted in the petition, Wang held the door open for other students to exit the school first before he lost his life in the shooting that killed 16 other people and injured 17 more.
That kind of selflessness deserves recognition. Heroism at such a young age should be honored.
