They met 72 years ago and are proving that true love waits.

Norwood Thomas, a 93-year-old World War II veteran from Virginia Beach, reunited with his wartime love, 88-year-old Joyce Morris, on Wednesday.

As The Virginian-Pilot reports, Thomas flew from Virginia to Adelaide, Australia in order to see his long lost love.

Morris was a 17-year-old Brit, and Thomas was a 21-year-old paratrooper, when they met in London right before D-Day.

When WWII ended, Thomas went back to the U.S., but the two continued to write letters to each other. Thomas even asked Morris to come to the U.S. and marry him in one of the letters, but because of a misunderstanding, Morris thought he was marrying someone else and discontinued her letters to Thomas.

Thomas was married until his wife passed in 2001, and Morris became divorced after 30 years of marriage.

Morris’ son found an article about D-Day featuring Thomas in The Virginian-Pilot after Morris had asked her son to look online for Thomas.

Thomas and Morris reconnected on Skype, and following the story going public, people made donations in droves to help fund a trip for Thomas to Australia where Morris lives.

The two plan to be together on Valentine’s Day.
