A woman in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Fransisco was reportedly blinded in a vicious attack over the weekend that's left police stumped.

On the early evening of this past Sunday, the victim was approached by a man who asked her to move. He later returned with a cup of bleach and proceeded to splash the liquid into the victim's face, temporarily blinding her.

According to the L.A. Times, police officer Grace Gatpandan said authorities were "trying to find a motive" for the attack, adding investigators will be reviewing surveillance footage obtained from local cameras in the area to help identify the suspect.

Police have not released a description of the suspect, who according to reports is a male between 20 and 25 years of age. Initial reports claimed the victim was rushed to the hospital with "serious injuries," but a revision was released claiming those reports were false and that the condition of the victim is still unknown.

This attack is eerily similar to many that have taken place in Europe, including a recent string of acid attacks in London. However, it appears that this incident was not intended for robbery, and will hopefully remain an isolated incident as investigators continue to search for clues.
