The White House told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday that they can expect to see “specific policy announcements” regarding gun control and school safety later this week.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that President Trump plans to meet with a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Wednesday to continue the conversation of how to address the issue of mental health and ensure school safety for kids across the country.

When pressed by reporters whether Trump is willing to “take on the NRA” which says it does not support his suggestion of a higher age limit for gun purchases, Sanders said the President “still supports raising the age limit to 21 for the purchase of certain firearms."

She added that Trump “knows that everybody does not necessarily agree,” but that reporters can expect a policy proposal this week as a result of ongoing discussions.

Trump told governors during a meeting at the White House on Monday not to worry about the NRA.

"Don't worry about the NRA, they're on our side," said the President.

He added, "They think they're doing what's right, but sometimes we need to be tough."
