Wednesday. Hump day. The middle of the week. Wednesday’s should be a ho-hum day where not much happens and business goes on as usual. Well, “business” went on as usual in the city of Chicago. Unfortunately “business,” in this instance, means over a dozen people were shot on a Wednesday. Still, no one cares.

On Wednesday alone, two people were shot and killed and another 12 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the two people who were murdered have been identified as 18-year-old Jason Garcia and 30-year-old Demarlon Simpkins. The two were killed in separate incidents.

If that weren't enough, a 9-year-old boy "accidentally shot and killed himself while playing with a gun." The incident wasn't a homicide and therefore doesn't count towards the numbers above. Even so, his death should be noted as well.

Wednesday’s events follow a weekend in which five people were murdered and another 32 were wounded.

The Chicago Tribune, who occasionally updates their yearly shooting tracker, reported that — as of October 5 — 3,204 people have been shot in Chicago so far in 2020. That is an astronomical 1,066 more shooting victims than at the same point in 2019.

Over 1,000 more shooting victims than in 2019. Let that sink in. Is 1,000 more victims enough for people in general, let alone activists, to take notice?

Still, no one cares.
