Apparently, former Vice President Joe Biden ventures into "the hood" - to encourage coding.

Biden spoke at a campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday and told a peculiar story about how he went “literally into the hood” to teach “women of color” “how to code.”

Here’s part of what Biden said on Wednesday:

Through a program we had through community colleges, we said, ‘Look, put together a program for us where we can teach people how to code. So they went out, literally into the hood, and they found, turned out, 54 [people], and they happened to be all women, the vast majority were women of color, no one with more than a high school degree, aged 24-54, and almost a third of them only had a GED.

Don’t people get suspended and banned from social media platforms for wanting or telling other people to #LearnToCode? How come it’s okay for Biden, but not for me?

Anyway, in May 2018, Biden gave a speech at the Brookings Institute where he told a very similar story whose origins came from — you guessed it — “the hood.”

Here’s what Biden said then:

We don’t think ordinary people can do things like program, code. It’s not rocket science, guys. We did it up in Michigan, when Detroit found out they didn’t have, in all the exodus, they didn’t have people to get the city back onto its feet, who could literally turn on the street lights, run the water system.

So we went, we hired some folks, to go into the neighborhoods. They pick 58 women, it turns out, from the hood for a 17-week program, if my memory serves me correctly, to learn how to code. Not one had more than a high school degree. A third only had GEDs.

Am I the only one who finds both those stories, told almost a full year apart, extraordinarily similar?

You can judge for yourself by watching video of both of Biden’s comments below:
