Washington Post: Migrant Border Detentions in March Could Reach Six Figures

Wait, I thought there was no crisis at the U.S./Mexico border?! I mean, that’s what the left has been telling us since they switched their positions on border security when Donald Trump became president. They wouldn’t lie to us, would they?

National security reporter for the Washington Post Nick Miroff reported on Monday that “the claim that border crossings are near historic lows is simply no longer true.”

According to Miroff’s WaPo article:

Groups like this arrived again and again in February, one of the coldest and busiest months along the southern border in years. U.S. authorities detained more than 70,000 migrants last month, according to preliminary figures, up from 58,000 in January. The majority were Central American parents with children who arrived, again, in unprecedented numbers[...]

The number of migrants taken into custody last year jumped 39 percent from February to March, and a similar increase this month would push levels to 100,000 detentions or more.

One could surmise that people are illegally flooding into the U.S. in droves because they are uncertain as to how much longer they’ll have to cross before Trump fulfill’s his promise of beefing up national security. The possible reason for illegal border detentions going down in FY2017 was most likely the result of questions regarding what kind of president Trump would be concerning border security. Once the world knew where Trump actually stood once in office for a time, illegal border crossing attempts began to increase again.

Breitbart’s Neil Munro gave a very interesting perspective on Monday as to why border crossings first dipped under Trump and subsequently went back up:

President Donald Trump’s effort to stop illegal migration has been blocked by judges eager to preserve catch-and-release policies set under President Barack Obama, by progressives who are eager to invite the world’s poor into Americans’ homeland, and by business-first Republicans who are eager to aid business and to avoid conflict with Democrats.

Trump initially pushed the cross-border flow down to 16,000 in April 2017. But the migrants — aided by the coyotes, cartels, and American immigration lawyers — have learned how to exploit the catch-and-release rules, which have been created for their benefit by Congress and the courts.

There’s seemingly less and less truth regarding the left’s assertion that there’s no humanitarian crisis at the border, while they simultaneously chide the Trump administration for the separation of families at the border. Wouldn’t the left’s anger at the alleged separating of families at the border constitute a humanitarian crisis? Don’t ask them, because if they actually said yes it would go against their conflicting narratives.

The left has no interest in border security, at least not under the Trump administration banner.
