Another weekend, more people murdered in Chicago that no one seems to pay attention to despite the violence being pretty consistent. The politicians simply don’t care — never have, never will.

This past weekend at least two people were killed and another 21 were wounded in weekend shootings across the Chicagoland area, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The violence keeps up the deadly momentum from the previous weekend, which saw at least four people murdered and another 18 wounded, according to CBS 2- Chicago.

Late Sunday evening, a 30-year-old man, who has yet to be publicly identified by the Cook Country medical examiner’s office, was killed. On Friday, the other fatality occurred that saw 42-year-old Kenny Winters shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight.

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 30 people have been murdered and another 133 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, who keeps a tracker of all Chicagoland shootings, reported that, as of February 2, 243 people have been shot this year. That number is 59 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking.

Maybe somebody besides the unappreciated and politically hamstrung Chicago Police Department (CPD) will take note of the violence plaguing the city. But, don’t hold your breath waiting for a Chicago politician to do very much at all.
