It’s no secret that most liberal college students are huge fans of socialism, but what happens when they get a lesson on how socialism really works?

Cabot Phillips of Campus Reform went out to Florida International University and asked students if they would support a “socialist GPA policy” in which students with higher GPA’s would lend their “support” to students with lower GPA’s to even out that inequality gap.

Let the light bulbs begin to glow.

“So on campus if there’s a GPA disparity where there’s people at the bottom with a poor GPA, would you support a policy with people at the top spread the wealth and give that GPA to people at the bottom?” Phillips asked, after learning that students favored socialism over capitalism.

“It’s hard, if, I guess… it would be kind of hypocritical for me to say ‘no,’” a young student said.

“That’s completely different,” another said. “‘Cause I’m like studying all day for my grade.”

As to be expected students expressed how much they’ve worked for their high GPA’s and how much sleep they lost toiling in their studies. When Phillips pointed out things needed to be “fair,” students recognized that maybe socialism wasn’t as “fair” as they thought.

“You’re basically profiting off of my work for you, so who’s really the bad guy here?” a female student recognized.

“I don’t think that’d be a good idea ‘cause then you’re taking away from people that  earned that grade,” a male student said. “What about the ones that aren’t really working hard for their grades so they’re just going to get something they don’t really deserve.”

Oh, the things you can learn when policies you support are applied directly to your life. These students will probably start thinking about these issues a whole lot differently from now on.
