VIDEO: Mass. Teacher Caught Planting Bullet in High School Stairwell

Here’s yet another case of someone not getting their way, so they have to make stuff up to make themselves feel better. Fortunately, a Massachusetts high school teacher got more than he bargained for.

Alfred Purcell III, a biology teacher at Southbridge High School in Southbridge, Mass., was arrested in his classroom late last week after he was found to have planted a “live round of 9mm ammunition” in a stairwell at the school, claiming that he found the bullet. Purcell’s “discovery” caused the school to go into a one-hour lockdown.

According to WCVB - Boston:

During the lockdown, police and Southbridge High School staff reviewed video footage and saw Purcell removing the live round of ammunition from his pocket, dropping it on the floor and quickly leaving the area, police said.

About 10 minutes later, the video shows Purcell standing over the ammunition and taking a picture of it with a cellphone, police said.

Purcell reportedly told police that he planted the bullet because he wanted to “prove to the school that they needed to get metal detectors.”

Purcell was, at one point, a licensed firearm owner. But, it was discovered that his license to carry in the state of Connecticut had expired. This was doubly troubling considering authorities found “102 live rounds of .20 gauge shot gun ammunition in the [Purcell’s] trunk.”

On a side note, WCVB also reported that Purcell knew his contract to teach at the school wasn’t going to be renewed for the following year.

“This individual acted in a disgusting manner,” Superintendent Jeffrey Villar said during a press conference. “I feel very badly for our students because it is an adult who failed them.”

Purcell is someone who’s supposed to shape young, impressionable minds. However, this is what happens when a teacher acts more like petulant child than the students.
