President Trump was asked by a reporter at the White House on Monday whether he believes it is safe to continue holding campaign rallies amid news of a coronavirus outbreak in the U.S.

“I think it’s very safe,” he replied, sitting in the Oval Office following a meeting with the Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez.

"Well this was set up a long time ago and others are,” Trump said, referring to his campaign rally in Charlotte, N.C., scheduled for Monday night. “You could ask that to the Democrats because they’re having a lot of rallies ... That's what they're doing. They're campaigning.”

He told reporters that he has asked pharmaceutical executives to “accelerate” their efforts to create a vaccine for the coronavirus.

"We’ve asked them to accelerate whatever they’re doing in terms of a vaccine," Trump said.

Trump tweeted Monday morning that he will be meeting with "the major pharmaceutical companies at the White House about progress on a vaccine and cure." The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.

As MRCTV reported, President Trump on Saturday urged Democrats and the media “not to do anything to incite panic” and that the coronavirus outbreak “is something that is being handled professionally.”
