The much-anticipated U.S.-North Korea summit is back on after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the meet.

President Trump announced on Friday that the summit would be taking place June 12 in Singapore, after more than an hour-long meeting with a top North Korean official.

He described the meeting between him, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Gen. Kim Yong Chol as a “getting to know each other kind of thing.”

During his visit to the White House, Kim Yong Chol, often referred to as Kim Jong Un's right-hand man, delivered Trump a letter from the North Korean dictator. Trump said the letter was “very interesting” but teased reporters about its contents.

The President said that he believes talks with North Korea are “going to be a process, but the relationships are building and that’s’ a very positive thing.”

On whether he thinks it will be a successful summit, Trump replied, "Remember what I say: We will see what we will see."

The announcement came after Trump cancelled the summit in a letter to Kim citing “tremendous anger and open hostility” from the North Korean regime.

A series of negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang regarding the proposed meet followed, culminating in Trump’s announcement on Friday.

He added that he believes not meeting would be a "big mistake" and that North Korea not only wants to denuclearize, but wants to "develop as a country."
