President Donald J. Trump called out NBA coaches who were silent when asked to give their point of view on the Hong Kong protests in China - but always willing to give sharp criticism to how the president was running the U.S.

During a press conference at the White House on Wednesday, Trump specifically called out Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, and San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, for their refusal to comment on Communist China’s oppressive policies.

When asked if the Chinese were wrong to be putting pressure on the NBA, Trump said that was the NBA’s situation to handle but criticized those who normally voice their political opinions but chose to forget how to speak.

“I watched this guy Steve Kerr and he was like a little boy who was scared to be even answering the question,” Trump said. “He couldn’t answer the question, he was shaking ‘oh, oh, oh, I don’t know’ he was shaking and he’ll talk about the United States very badly.”

“I watched Popovich, sort of the same thing but he didn’t look quite as scared actually,” he continued. “They talk badly about the United States but when it talks about China they don’t want to say anything bad. I thought it was pretty sad.

Trump went on to say, “I watched the way that Kerr, Popovich, and some of the others were pandering to China and yet to our own country — it’s like they don’t respect it. I said, ‘what a difference, isn’t it sad?’ It’s very sad, to me it’s very sad.”

As The Daily Wire reports:

The NBA’s China mess began when Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted in support of the pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong against China’s attempts to erode the autonomy of the region and the civil rights of citizens. In response, the Chinese government and the Chinese Basketball Association denounced the GM and threatened to cut ties with the Rockets. The NBA quickly took steps to appease the communist regime, apologizing for having “deeply offended many of our friends and fans in China,” while Morey deleted the tweet and apologized for expressing solidarity with pro-democracy protesters.

If you didn’t see Kerr’s stumbling answer while commenting on the NBA’s China issues, here it is:

It’s always interesting to watch vocal people decide to shut up when they know their vocalness can keep them from making those extra dollars.
