In an interview on CNN, Tree of Life Rabbi Jeffrey Myers spoke about President Trump's visit to the synagogue after the horrific shooting, giving CNN's viewers an angle on the president that many of them likely don't hear very often.
"The President... was very warm, very consoling... [Trump] put his hand on my shoulder, and the first question he asked me was 'Rabbi, tell me how you are doing.' And I must say throughout the time we spent together, I was pleasantly surprised by a warm... personal side to the president that I don't think America has ever seen," Myers told CNN's Alisyn Camerota.
The rabbi has consistently made very bipartisan comments, refusing to use the shooting as a political opportunity. In another CNN interview where he was asked if he "blames anyone for the shooting," Myers responded:
“I don’t really foist any blame on any person... Hate does not know any religion, race, creed, political party – it’s not a political issue in any way, shape, or form... Hate does not know any of those things. It exists in all people."
According to The Daily Wire, in the days since the horrific shooting, Rabbi Jeffrey Myers reportedly received hate mail and death threats for hosting President Trump at the Tree of Life synagogue.
"When I first said that the president was welcome, I’ve received a lot of emails, too numerous to count, I’ve received many that are not happy with those words," he told CNN Wednesday morning. "Those emails also contain hate. It just continues in this vicious cycle. We need to be better than this."
