Thousands of people descended upon the National Mall in Washington D.C. Monday to attend the Women’s Prayer Rally for Hope & Healing in America, sponsored by TheCall.

TheCall organization hosts free-of-charge gatherings all over the country to promote the “mercy of God” and “exalting the Lord and Him alone,” according to the group’s website.

According to the events organizers:

With a nation deeply divided and its people reeling from natural disasters, growing racial tension, and political upheaval, the day will be one for honoring and empowering women to pray for the nation in crisis.  Women in attendance will be praying for healing, for unity, for families, for justice, for hope, for life and healing of the country.

Attendees gathered in the morning rains to dance, sing, pray and listen to an array of speakers. The event was non-denominational and apolitical. The organizers said "it is simply focused on petitioning God on behalf of the country in a spirit of unity, love and compassion."
