Now-former Teen Vogue editor Alexi McCammond recently announced on Twitter that she's stepped down from her job at the publication after facing backlash over tweets she had posted 10 years ago that contained supposedly racist and homophobic content.

“My past tweets have overshadowed the work I’ve done to highlight the people and issues that I care about - issues that Teen Vogue has worked tirelessly to share with the world - and so Condé Nast and I have decided to part ways,” she said.

“I look at my work and growth in the years since, and have redoubled my commitment to growing in the years to come as both a person and as a professional,” she stated.

McCammond found herself under fire for the decade-old tweets posted in 2011, including one in which she said she was "now googling how to not wake up with swollen, asian eyes."

In her statement explaining her resignation, McCammond asserted that she had become a journalist to fight for marginalized communities, and she wished to continue doing just that.

“I hope to have the opportunity to re-join the ranks of tireless journalists who are shining light on the issues that matter every single day,” she said.

Is that so? Unless Condé Nast forced her out, McCammond still could have kept her job at Teen Vogue. She stated herself in her announcement that she had grown in the years since her troublesome tweets. Her reasons for taking up journalism would suggest that she has matured, and isn’t racist or homophobic. But McCammond is choosing to focus on an old transgression instead of her career.

If McCammond is engaging in preposterous virtue signaling by quitting her job just to show how sensitive she is to the plight of the marginalized, then she needs intelligence more than anything else.

Seriously, no reasonable person should quit a job over an online post from when they were just a dumb teenager.

Then again, perhaps it's poetic justice, considering that a conservative would most certainly be ordered to resign from their position if they posted anything remotely close to what McCammond tweeted as a teen.
