The Taliban announced Monday its intention of resuming offensive operations against the forces of the government of Afghanistan, breaking a partial truce put in place before the Taliban signed the landmark peace deal with the U.S. on Saturday.
Although this announcement, and a subsequent explosion in eastern Afghanistan, have come little more than 48 hours after the signing of a peace deal between the Taliban and the U.S., the Taliban have maintained that these new developments will not affect the events of Saturday.
The State Department has not responded to a request for comment on how this turn of events will affect the peace deal going forward.
