It turns out that you shouldn’t smoke weed everyday, in spite of what Nate Dogg raps about. And you especially shouldn’t smoke it if you’re a teenager.

According to a study from JAMA Pediatrics, teenage addiction to marijuana is nearly as high (no pun intended) as teenage addiction to prescription opioids, the Blaze reports.

JAMA Pediatrics is operated by the American Medical Association.

The study detailed how 10.7% of children and young teens ages 12-17 had become addicted to marijuana within only a year after they had first smoked it. The age group’s prescription opioid addiction was only slightly higher, at 11.2%.

National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Nora Volkow, one of the authors of the study, noted the enormity of the numbers involved.

"One in 10 teens having a marijuana addiction — that's huge," she said.

She also stated that smoking weed makes teenagers more susceptible to other drug addictions.
