A recent study released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) says the state of Connecticut’s economy dropped by nearly $700 million over a three year period, because of it’s new gun laws.

According to the NSSF, over 3,000 jobs were lost in the firearms industry and related fields, a drop of 39% from 2013 levels.

The report also claims in-state wages declined by 36% and state taxes paid declined by 37% over the three-year period, leading to a $700 million dollar loss to the state economy.

One company that decided to leave the state, PTR Industries of Bristol, said that state’s gun laws were threatening an industry in the state that pre-dated the Civil War.

“The rights of the citizens of CT have been trampled upon. The safety of its children is at best questionably improved from the day of the tragedy that triggered the events that lead us here. Finally, due to an improperly drafted bill, manufacturing of modern sporting rifles in the State of CT has been effectively outlawed,” The company said in a press release.

“With a heavy heart but a clear mind, we have been forced to decide that our business can no longer survive in Connecticut – the former Constitution state.”

“Furthermore, we feel that our industry as a whole will continue to be threatened so long as it remains in a state where its elected leaders have no regard for the rights of those who produce and manufacture its wealth. We are making a call to all involved in our industry to leave this state, close your doors and show our politicians the true consequences of their hasty and uninformed actions.”

Overall, the firearms industry has grown across the nation, according to the NSSF study.

“Over the past eight years, the industry’s growth has been driven by an unprecedented number of Americans choosing to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms and purchase a firearm and ammunition,” the study says.
