People from all across the conservative movement joined the Family Research Council (FRC) in attending the Values Voter Summit, including President Trump, over the weekend to take part in “a forum to help mobilize citizens across America to preserve the bedrock values of traditional marriage, religious liberty, sanctity of life and limited government that make our nation strong,” according the Values Voter Summit (VVS) website.
The event took place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.
However, those radically on the Left, like Newsweek and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), took a gathering of conservatives to mean that the Trump endorses “hate groups.”
According to SPLC’s website:
The FRC is an organization that has relentlessly vilified LGBT people – portraying them as sick, vile, incestuous, violent, perverted, and a danger to children and the nation. Because of its demonizing lies about the LGBT community, it has been named as a hate group by the SPLC.
Newsweek, who apparently takes their cues from the SPLC, titled their article, “DONALD TRUMP TO SPEAK AT HATE GROUP’S ANNUAL EVENT, A FIRST FOR A PRESIDENT.”
MRCTV, who was in attendance at the event, wanted to get people’s thoughts on both the Southern Poverty Law Center and Newsweek’s assertion that the Values Voter Summit was an event based on hate run by a "hate group."
“The purpose of this Values Voter Summit is not to hate on any group at all,” a high school student with more common sense than most adults told MRCTV. “The purpose is to come together and talk about the values that are dear to us.”
To be fair, the SPLC labels any group of people that don’t wholeheartedly ascribe to their radically liberal ideology as a “hate group.” They’re not picky.
The problem comes in when no one with a rational brain in their skull has called the SPLC the moral authority on any aspect of life, especially considering the organization’s utter contempt for babies.
As a matter of fact, the SPLC constantly defends Planned Parenthood, the nation’s number one provider of baby murder — er, abortion.
Most people MRCTV talked to spoke about how, whether we agree with each other or not, a dialogue needs to be opened.
“There is an opportunity to have thoughtful dialogue,” a high school U.S. Government teacher said, “and that’s what we’re lacking.”
If only places the like the SPLC were open to debate.
