On Sunday, the crew on Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s yacht, SeaQuest, woke up to find the boat they were on was, shockingly, no longer attached to the dock.

After struggling to gain control of the boat, the crew managed to get it stable, but not before it scraped the dock and caused up to $10,000 worth of damages.

The SeaQuest was docked on Lake Erie in Ohio this past weekend when it was vandalized. Bob Lippert, the local police chief, told the Washington Post that he wasn’t sure whether or not the perpetrators know it was DeVos’s boat -- though that's pretty unlikely, given that they very fact that she'd docked it had made headlines. One article begins with, “The SeaQuest Yacht, famously owned by Betsy DeVos, the U.S. Secretary of Education, docked in Huron Friday.”

The captain of the boat, Quintynn Botha, reportedly told police that the crew didn’t observe an shady or suspicious behavior the night before and the police are currently trying to get video camera footage from the night of the incident for a better lead.

DeVos was not on the boat at the time of the incident and it is unclear as to weather or not she was even in Ohio at the time. She and several family members own nine other luxury boats.

Secretary DeVos was in Toledo, Ohio earlier this month touring the Correctional Treatment Facility and Penta Career Center. Her presence at events has often been met by protesters railing against her policies, including her promotion of school choice.

Police Chief Lippert did not have a ton to say about the ongoing investigation, but he did say that “had there been different wind or more wind, [the yacht] could have certainly floated a lot further than it did.”
