After more than two decades of speculation, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) have released photos of the shotgun that Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain allegedly used to commit suicide almost 22 years ago.

This marks the first time the weapon has been shown to the public since the alternative singer supposedly killed himself with a shotgun blast to the head on April 5, 1994. There have been conspiracy theories that Cobain was actually murdered, and did not commit suicide as Seattle police determined years ago.

The photos of the shotgun are sure to add more fuel to the conspiracy fire, since Cobain was not that tall (5’9”), and the length of the shotgun appears to be longer than expected for someone who allegedly committed suicide.

According to the Daily Mail, Seattle police found Cobain's corpse clutching the gun with a lethal dose of heroin injected into his body.

Detective Michael Ciesynski is seen in the pictures displaying the shotgun from the scene. Ciesynski is a cold case homicide detective with the Seattle Police Department, and in 2014 ruled that Cobain’s death was indeed a suicide.

However, a former member of the SPD views things a little differently.

Ex-Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper said, “If I were chief today, I would reopen this investigation.”

Stamper teamed up with documentarian Benjamin Statler to release the 2015 film “Soaked in Bleach,” which can be seen on Netflix.

In the documentary, Tom Grant, the private investigator hired by Cobain’s widow Courtney Love, said the amount of heroin found in Cobain’s system at the time of his death proved there was no possible way he could have pulled the trigger and killed himself.

Also, none of the fingerprints initially lifted from the shotgun were legible, and many people interviewed in the documentary said the SPD were very careless during the initial investigation.

Whichever side of this forever extending fence you sit on, we may never know for sure what happened to rock legend Kurt Cobain.
