Sheriff: Vet Dies, 3 Live With Body - Use His Social Security

It’s a case that will make you cringe.

Authorities in Ohio not only discovered a dead American veteran, but how three people resided at his home address with his corpse while allegedly using his Social Security money.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office in Ohio discovered a badly decomposed body in the living room of a house they were searching -- after neighbors expressed concern about not seeing the resident.

WTOV reports, residents of the house were living amongst the body while they allegedly continued to cash the Social Security of the deceased.

Authorities were contacted out of concern for 71-year old Robert Harris, a Vietnam veteran no one had seen for quite some time. But the investigation became more in-depth when authorities discovered his debit card for his Social Security was continuing to be used.

“After a couple more days we were able to obtain video showing the residents of this home making ATM transactions," Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell said.

It still couldn’t have prepared authorities for what they would find when they executed a search warrant Tuesday on the home.

“Our units entered a living room area where they found an unhidden, very severely decomposed, what I would describe as mostly skeletonized body,” Sheriff Campbell said. “This is the home they live in. This was 10 feet away from where they slept."

“It's just a pretty sad situation when you think he was a Vietnam veteran that served our country and came home and this is how his life ended,” Campbell said.

Brian Sorohan, 49, and Stacy Sorohan, 45, are facing charges of gross abuse of a corpse, theft and failure to report knowledge of a death.

18-year-old Brianna Sorohan is charged with gross abuse of a corpse and failure to report knowledge of a death. She has been released. Brian and Stacy remain held on $20,000 bond each.

Officials are still determining how Harris died.
