Sarah Palin is suing the New York Times for defamation after the paper’s editorial board published a piece on June 14 blaming her for the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

When the article was first published, in response to the targeted shooting of GOP congressmen on an Alexandria baseball field, it was clear this was just another desperate left-wing attempt to find some possible way to blame Republicans for…well, anything, really. Rather than simply condemn the ultra-hyperbolized political rhetoric from the left that clearly inspired a crazy person to pick up guns and go on a rampage against politicians he didn’t like, the high mucky mucks New York Times lashed out against a conservative politician in the most expedient way possible – by lying about it.

And it wasn’t even a good lie, centered around a nebulous maybe-it-was, maybe-it-wasn’t type of situation. Even back in 2011, it was definitively proven that there was exactly no link between Sarah Palin and James Loughner, the paranoid schizophrenic who shot Giffords in the head and killed six other people in a supermarket parking lot before he could be subdued.

The media at the time were quick to point the finger at then-Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, claiming her team had circulated a midterm election map decorated with stylized “targets” showing blue congressional districts, thus inspiring the attack. The whole theory turned out to be a giant crock; on top of being a highly disturbed individual with extreme mental problems, Lougher had had an obsession with Giffords that long predated Palin’s silly map. Investigations ruled out any link to Palin or the GOP immediately after the whole thing happened.

Even the New York Times was forced to concede this simple fact earlier this month in an official correction to their story added just a day after they first published their shamelessly erroneous editorial.

Now, Palin says she’s suing the paper for damages.

Despite the paper’s own admission that they screwed up the facts big time, New York Times spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades Ha told Fox News, "We have not reviewed the claim yet but will defend against any claim vigorously,” in regards to Palin’s lawsuit.

Openly and repeatedly lying to force a political agenda isn’t a new practice for the media (CNN, anyone?). A quick Google search would have saved the so-called journalists at the New York Times a world of hurt and embarrassment, not to mention the PR fallout.

But apparently, even three seconds of basic due diligence is too much to ask for a media so blinded by their hatred of the right, they’d rather risk a lawsuit than simply tell the truth.
