On Thursday, Politico reported from a source who is “familiar with the preparation of the RNC” that former President Trump will be invited to speak at their upcoming spring donors meeting.
If he accepts his invitation, Trump would join other potential presidential candidates and GOP leaders in April for the 3-day event. The event is expected to be held in Palm Beach Florida, but not Mar-a-lago where Trump currently resides, according to Politico’s source.
Trump was previously invited to the Winter RNC meeting, which was the same week as the capitol riot, but neglected to attend.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump recently met with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in an effort to repair their relationship following McCarthy’s criticism of the president following the riots on Jan. 6. A Trump adviser said, “They are making sure they say kumbaya,”
After the meeting, McCarthy said in a statement that Trump is, “committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate. A united conservative movement will strengthen the bonds of our citizens and uphold the freedoms our country was founded on.”
Trump previously flirted with the idea of starting a new political party called the “Patriot Party." On Tuesday, RNC Chair, Ronna McDaniel said she is confident that Trump will not start a third party. She told Fox News that Trump’s "interested in getting involved in the midterms to make sure we win back the majorities." She also added,
“The only way we’re going to win is if we come together and recognize that our policies of cutting taxes, deregulation, energy independence, rule of law judges, our policies that the American people want to hear about. They don’t want to hear about infighting within the GOP."
A spokesperson for Trump declined to comment to Politico on the former president being invited to speak at the RNC meeting.
