Republicans Adjourn After House Dems Don't Show Up For Their Own Climate Change Hearing

“A national crisis!"

“The most pressing issue of our time!”

“An impending apocalypse!”

Liberals may consider climate change to be all these things and more – but apparently, there’s one thing they think it's not: something worth showing up to a congressional hearing for.

On Tuesday, House Democrats failed to show up for a congressional committee hearing that they themselves had scheduled on the “pressing matter” of climate change, which we’ve been told will assuredly kill us all within the next 10 to 12 years if we don’t get humanity under control.

In fact, despite the supposed dire nature of global warming and the impending death it will bring to all of mankind, only two of the House Natural Resources subcommittee’s five Democrats bothered to show up for their own hearing Tuesday on “The Denial Playbook: How Industries Manipulate Science and Policy from Climate Change to Public Health."

Given that the controlling party wasn’t there, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert (R) moved to adjourn the meeting on the basis that the topic was “well outside [the subcommittee’s] jurisdiction,” a move that was backed up by all four Republican subcommittee members who had actually made an appearance. The move passed 4 to 2, given that the remaining three Democrats weren't in the room to cast a vote.
