A reporter for an NBC affiliate in Minnesota was fired Friday for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat while covering a President Trump rally.

Multimedia journalist for KTTC, James Bunner, was reportedly fired one day after Thursday's rally in Rochester, where he was seen wearing a red MAGA hat outside of the Mayo Civic Center.

Pictures of him wearing the hat were posted on Twitter by Mark Vancleave, a video journalist for the Minnesota Tribune who was also covering the event.

Bunner had previously shared on Facebook his support for Trump and the NRA.

The station’s news director claims the decision to fire Bunner had nothing to do with the reporter's political views, but because he violated station policy.

“He violated our policy so he’s no longer with us,” Noel Sederstrom, news director for KTTC, told BuzzFeed News. “We don’t allow our people to wear campaign clothing while on assignment.”

BuzzFeed reports that Bunner had been working for KTTC's Austin bureau since December 2017. His work profile has been removed from the local TV station's website.
