An illegal immigrant who has been deported six times in the last two decades is reportedly responsible for killing a grandmother of five in a hit-and-run in Denver, Colorado two weeks ago.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a written statement to local station KUSA-TV that Mexican national Juan Sanchez, who has now been formally charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, that Sanchez was removed from the U.S. twice in 2002, three times in 2008, and once in 2012.

ICE also indicated that Sanchez is “an ICE enforcement priority.”

Conservative Review reports that 51-year-old Annette Conquering Bear was killed in a hit-and-run while she was crossing the street on the way back from a Walgreens store near her apartment on Dec. 17. This was just two days before her Dec. 19 birthday and she leaves behind six children and five grandchildren, according to an obituary obtained by CR.

Sanchez was charged for her death last Monday. He is currently being held in jail in downtown Denver. His bail is set at $500,000.

ICE has issued a detainer request to the Denver Sheriff’s Department should Sanchez somehow make bail.

Apparently he was in Gilpin County Jail just four days before the hit-and-run incident on suspicion of DUI but was released by local law enforcement before ICE could lodge a detainer request.

“Colorado Bureau of Investigations and ICE records reviewed by 9Wants to Know suggest Sanchez had been arrested on suspicion of DUI at least three times prior dating back to 2000,” KUSA-TV reports.
