Democrat Rep. Cori Bush is in some hot water for bizarrely claiming on Twitter that “white supremacists” were allowed to hide behind a hill and wantonly shoot at her and her fellow protesters as they were marching against “racism” in Ferguson, Missouri.
A claim that raised more than a few eyebrows, considering that…well, it looks like it didn’t happen.
“When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us,” Bush fired off on social media. “They never faced consequences."
“If Kyle Rittenhouse gets acquitted, it tells them that even 7 years later they still can get away with it,” she went on, referring to the 17-year-old young man on trial for felony homicide after shooting three and killing two as he was being pursued by a violent mob during the riots on August 25, 2020.
After being accused of openly lying to make a point, Bush’s re-election campaign spokesperson defended the Grassy Knoll story, releasing the following statement:
“While on the frontlines of the Ferguson Uprising, Congresswoman Bush and other activists were shot at by white supremacist vigilantes. The question we need to ask is why white supremacists feel empowered to open-carry rifles, incite violence, and put Black lives at risk across our country," the statement read.
Local reporters were able to pull up similar claims from a few protesters who said they’d been shot at while marching in support of Mike Brown, but noted that police found nothing when they looked into the incident.
Ferguson Police Chief Frank McCall Jr., who took over the department in July, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Monday that he didn’t know of any record of such a shooting.
