Sen. Rand Paul Smashes Absurd 'Impeachment Trial' of Citizen Trump

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) on Tuesday took the lead in outlining the absurd and anti-constitutional natures of the second impeachment of now Ex-President Donald Trump.

It’s taking Paul – a more libertarian-leaning man than Trump, and a man who disagreed with the former President on many issues – to stand up against the absurd specifics of the “charges” leveled against Trump, and to expose the utter insult to constitutionalism the impeachment and coming Senate “Trial” represent.

On the specific charge of inciting the January 6 Capitol Hill violence, Paul offered on the floor what many Americans wish the pop media would bother reporting, but which said media seem afraid to explain.

Thankfully, Selwyn Duke and The New American are not part of the leftist media establishment, and they properly covered Paul’s efforts. Writes Duke about Paul’s Senate speech opposing the start of an Impeachment Trial:

(Paul) defended Trump against the charges of inciting the Capitol riot. ‘I know everyone here will soon march to the Capitol to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,’ said Paul, quoting Trump’s January 6 speech, given shortly before the violence erupted.

‘Hardly words of violence,’ the senator stated, before asking rhetorically, ‘But what of Democrat words? What of Democrat incitement to violence?’

Yes, what of that?

One could make an old-style “Greatest Hits” record out of the multitudinous quotes from leftist politicians and their “news” parrots calling for street violence, intimidation, and political attacks on those with differing views.

Indeed, who can forget those classics, like CNN’s embarrassment, Don Lemon (one of many CNN embarrassments), calling for destruction of the entire American system after fawning over Black Lives Matters protests that helped foster death and destruction in 2020? Like Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) calling on people to harass and possibly intimidate innocent Americans who might support Trump or his policies? And who can forget the lovely, dulcet tones of CNN’s Chris “Fredo” Cuomo, who once said, “Show me where it says protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful.”

Paul continued, as Duke observes:

’No Democrat will honestly ask whether Bernie Sanders incited the shooter that nearly killed Steve Scalise and a volunteer coach,’ he continued, alluding to the 2017 congressional baseball shooting perpetrated by leftist James Hodgkinson.

And then Paul destroyed the “trial” on constitutional grounds, elucidating what those who care about the so-called “rules” of the US have tried to say outside the halls of Congress. Paul explained that this process is patently and absurdly unconstitutional (just like most of what the House and Senate and Executive Branch do).

Paul made important points about the trial’s apparent unconstitutionality: that impeachment is meant for public officials, not private citizens; that using it against the latter is akin to a bill of attainder, prohibited under the Constitution, and that the Supreme Court’s chief justice will not preside, as the Constitution mandates.

Of course, one whistles in the wind by trying to get most politicians, judges, and bureaucrats in DC to abide by their oaths to the Constitution, but for those who might be willing to pull the Collectivist Cotton out of their ears and pull the Bolshevik Blinders from their eyes, we can note that the prohibition against Bills of Attainder is found in Article One, Section Nine, Clause Three, of the Constitution.

And it prohibits “a legislative act which inflicts punishment without a judicial trial.”

Similarly, it breaches the Fifth Amendment prohibition of the deprivation of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, and now, as a citizen, rather than a President, if Trump were to be convicted in an “impeachment” trial in the Senate, he would be deprived of his liberty to run again as a candidate for that office.

The hypocrisy on the side of the left is thicker than a London Fog, clouding constitutional issues that Rand Paul brings to light, and showing how selective and manipulative the mendacious Marxist mob truly is. Paul lost in his attempt to stop the trial, with a vote rolling out, 55 to 45, with five GOP senators voting with the entire block of Democrats. This in an absurd “Alice in Wonderland” world where politicians in the majority actually claim that they can use an impeachment process -- designed to impeach in the House, put on trial in the Senate, and remove a President – of a NON-PRESIDENT. If the President has already left office, there is no need for a trial, and no constitutional power to put said FORMER President on trial.

But that doesn’t matter to the left. Just like their out-of-context quotation of Trump’s statements at the January 6th rally, they show not a whit of care for the Constitution nor for their own hypocrisy when it comes to possible incitement of violence.

It reminds me of the days after James Hodgkinson attacked Rand Paul. I have many leftist “writer-friends”, many of whom wore their hearts on their sleeves as they virtue-signaled about sexual intimidation and violence with the “#MeToo” and “#Don’tBlameTheVictim” rhetoric – the kinds of things that most of us take as basic morality, but which many of those lefties not only seemed to think they had to promote to make themselves look morally superior, but which they tried to use for political purposes to go after the “sexist” Trump.

Yet, right after Rand was beaten to the point of losing a part of a lung, some of these same leftists, “caring,” “Don’tBlameTheVictim” writers were on Facebook PRAISING the beating, with one actually writing, “Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.”

I hopped in to remind them that, just days prior, they had been hash-tagging about not blaming victims.

Today, these same folks are claiming Trump called for a riot and insurrection on January 6th, when it’s obvious that he did not. They are calling for his “Impeachment Trial” when such a trial is designed for the removal of a sitting Chief Executive.

Is it any wonder why politicians on the left get away with so much?

Their supporters either are blind to their own double-standards and lack of constitutional comprehension, or they don’t care.

Thankfully, some of us are different. We care.
