Famous celebrity cook Rachael Ray was accused of committing “cultural #genocide” against Arabs for showcasing Israeli food on her Twitter page.
In a tweet, Ray posted her “Israeli nite” cuisine that included many popular Middle Eastern dishes, such as stuffed grape leaves and hummus:

In response to the tweet, users posted photos of different kinds of Italian, Asian, American, and Mexican food to try to claim that the foods Ray featured were not Israeli:
Crazy! I’m having Israeli food too! pic.twitter.com/q1dUinHbZ5

One person in particular, Arab American Institute founder James Zogby, chimed in to accuse Ray of perpetuating cultural genocide:
Damn it @rachaelray. This is cultural #genocide. It’s not #Israeli food. It’s #Arab (#Lebanese, #Palestinian, #Syrian, #Jordanian). First the Israelis take the land & ethnically cleanse it of Arabs. Now they take their food & culture & claim it’s theirs too! #Shame. https://t.co/1nDXlcfRHA

Zogby followed up on his tweet by sharing a Jerusalem Post article about the situation. In his post, he claimed he wasn’t “looking to start a war,” but wanted to make a point about “#Israeli apologists”:
Wasn’t looking to start a war, just point out the injustice done to #Palestinians. Was stunned by the reactions of #Israeli apologists - they don’t like to be reminded that they built their country on the back of one they displaced. I will continue this... https://t.co/D297G3AbP3

Despite the battle not being a war, Zogby also vowed to “continue this.”
