A quick reminder for those reading this blog: America fought a war so that we didn’t have to give a crap about what some fools across the pond think about us. Therefore, this article is for information purposes only.

OK, and also for purposes of mockery. Because stupidity, while annoying, can also be hilarious.

England’s very own Prince William took a swipe at the newest age of U.S.-led space exploration this week, saying – on the very same day that Captain Kirk finally took to the stars, no less – that billionaires shouldn’t be going into space when there are problems on Earth left to solve.

“We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live," William said.

I guess William missed the part where SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is also working on affordable solar shingles to power personal homes with renewable energy. Or, I don’t know, his entire electric car company. Or the $1 billion Jeff Bezos recently pledged to environmental conservation.

It also seems William missed the fact that space exploration has in the past led to innovations that have greatly improved life on Earth, particularly for some of the world's most vulnerable populations. Artificial limbs? Insulin pumps? Firefighting equipment? Water filtration systems and shock absorbers for buildings? Baby formula and air purifiers and CAT scans and solar cells?

All thanks to NASA, the Space Race, and some good ol' fashioned American ingenuity, baby.

You’re welcome, Earth.
