President Trump on Friday threatened to close the U.S.-Mexico border, or large sections of the border, next week, amid the ongoing border crisis that has led overwhelmed immigration enforcement officials to release hundreds of illegal immigrants into the country.
Trump in a series of tweets slammed the Democratic Party for having “given us the weakest immigration laws anywhere in the World” and called on Congress to act.
He also called on Mexico – which “has for many years made a fortune off of the U.S., far greater than Border Costs – to “immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States through[h] our Southern Border,” or else face a border closures.
The President added that closing the U.S.-Mexico border would actually “be a good thing”:
His remarks come as U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Yuma Sector plans to release 200 illegal aliens into the U.S. each day as border detention facilities are overcrowded, reports MRCTV.
Border Patrol also started releasing migrants in Texas earlier this month, also due to overcrowding.
It is custom for Border Patrol to transfer migrants to Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) for processing and deportation, but because of the unprecedented influx of migrants and overcrowded facilities, Border Patrol is having to do the releasing.
