On Wednesday, Portland Police Chief Danielle Outlaw said that police need “a better way” to deal with brawling mask-wearing protesters in the City of Roses.
The police chief’s call for an anti-mask law comes after last month’s unsurprisingly violent Antifa protest where 3 people arrested. Multiple citizens and police officers were injured, including conservative journalist Andy Ngo.
Update to @MrAndyNgo supporters — he is being admitted to the hospital overnight as a result of a brain bleed. You sick “journalists” and other hacks gloating about this should be ashamed. As for the rest, please pray for @MrAndyNgo who we need back in health — brave man!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️ https://t.co/XYVy4EbIzv— Harmeet K. Dhillon (@pnjaban) June 30, 2019
“Every demonstration we’ve responded to is reactionary,'' Chief Outlaw told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday. "We need strategic resources to get ahead of this before it starts so it’s not even allowed to happen in the first place.”
“We cannot allow people to continue to use the guise of free speech to commit a crime,’’ she continued. “A lot of people are emboldened because they know they can’t be identified.’’
As the Wiliamette Week reports, to support her case Chief Outlaw mentioned anti-mask laws were already in place in other states across the country.
"In other states, you'll see that it's illegal to wear a mask during the commission of a crime," the chief told reporters. "If you knew that you could be easily identified, do you think you would be as inclined to commit that act of violence, or commit that crime?"
Antifa members are known to be cowards hiding behind sunglasses, a helmet, and a rag, I wonder how brave they’ll be if their ability to have anonymous violent outbursts is taken away?
