A new Fox News poll finds that a majority of U.S. voters (66%) favor the border security deal struck by top negotiating lawmakers that provides for $1.375 billion for “barriers” along the U.S.-Southern border but no “wall.” Just 21 percent oppose the compromise. Meanwhile, support for President Trump’s wall is rising.

The number favoring the wall inched up for the second time in two months to 46 percent, according to the latest Fox News Poll. It was 43 percent last month during the government shutdown and 39 percent in September. The high mark was 50 percent in November 2015.
Currently, 50 percent oppose the wall, down one point since January.
A bipartisan 66 percent majority favors a budget deal that includes funding for some form of a border barrier, plus other security measures and humanitarian relief.

While there is a wide gap in the number of Democrats (12 percent) and Republicans (86 percent) favoring the wall, majorities of both parties, 60 percent of Democrats and 73 percent of Republicans, favor the compromise.
The House is expected to vote on the border security deal on Thursday. The bill must pass in the House and the Senate and be signed by President Trump by midnight Friday to avoid what would be the second partial government shutdown of 2019.
President Trump on Tuesday said that he is “not happy” about the measure but did not say whether he would turn down the deal if it makes it to his desk.
He has said that whether or not Congress provides him with the $5.7 billion he requested to build a wall along the U.S.-Southern border, “We’re building the wall anyway.”
The Fox News poll of 1,004 U.S. voters was conducted Feb. 10-12 and has a margin sampling error of three percentage points.
