Adrian Garcia, chief of the Childress Police Department in Childress, Texas, told atheist protesters to simply “go fly a kite” after they demanded he remove the “In God We Trust” bumper stickers from the department’s patrol cars.

Garcia had announced in a Sept. 2 Facebook post that he planned to put the bumper stickers on the department’s patrol cars. The move was immediately met with pushback from the atheist Freedom From Religion Foundation, who sent Garcia a letter demanding he remove the bumper stickers.

Garcia responded in a one-sentence rebuttal posted on the department’s Facebook page:

“After carefully reading your letter I must deny your request in the removal of our Nations motto from our patrol units, and ask that you and the Freedom From Religion Foundation go fly a kite."

The letter was addressed to “Annie” -- Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor.

Garcia’s post has garnered a slew of support on Facebook, earning more than 73,000 “likes” and nearly 61,000 shares by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
