In what will probably be the stupidest thing you read all day, Piers Morgan has suggested that kneeling in church is comparable to kneeling during the National Anthem.

In a tweet on Sunday, the British journalist and TV personality wrote, “Millions of Americans kneel in church every week – are they disrespecting God?”

He soon faced a firestorm of criticism from people on Twitter, calling him out for not understanding that Christians kneel before the cross as a sign of respect and NFL players kneel during the Anthem as a sign of protest.

“What an ignorant comment! In America We Stand For The Flag & Kneel For The Cross!” wrote one user.

“Seriously? You do not know the difference between kneeling before God and standing to show respect for one's country? Bless your heart,” wrote another.

“Kneeling in worship is not even close to kneeling in disrespect. It’s the heart attitude. The NFL has shown us their heart,” one person tweeted.

Morgan, in an attempt to defend his sorry comparison, later said that kneeling has “never been an insulting act & in the military, it's often done as an act of respect to dead colleagues.”

He added that the Anthem protests “have never been aimed at the military.”

When asked whether he kneels when his country’s anthem is played, Morgan replied, “No, I personally stand. But it wouldn't offend anyone in Britain to see someone kneeling to the national anthem.”

Some came to his defense, arguing that veterans fought for Americans’ freedom and rights, including their right to protest.

But for Morgan to actually compare Christians kneeling in church to NFL players kneeling in protest of the National Anthem is beyond ridiculous, even for him.
