The border crisis is worsening as an unprecedented number of migrants continue to attempt to enter the U.S. illegally.

According to data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Wednesday, more than 100,000 migrants were apprehended or turned away at the U.S.-Mexico border in April.

The data reveals that 109,114 migrants attempted to enter the U.S. illegally in April, including 98,977 who were apprehended and 10,167 who were deemed “inadmissible.”

Of those apprehended, 58,747 were family units, 31,606 were single adults, and 8,897 were unaccompanied children.

As The Hill reported, "The total apprehension number is the highest since April 2007, at the height of Mexican mass migration to the United States, when CBP apprehended 105,825 people."

This is the second month in a row that arrivals have reached over 100,000, with 103,719 total in March.

CBP also tweeted Wednesday that, “As of Sunday, only 7 months into the fiscal year, #BorderPatrol has surpassed the TOTAL Southwest border apprehensions of every fiscal year since 2009.”

This news comes as the Trump administration considers measures to reform the asylum process, such as charging a fee to process asylum claims.
