Oprah Winfrey says she’s waiting for a sign from God whether she should run for president in 2020.
Winfrey in an interview with People Magazine published this week said that amid calls for her to consider a White House bid, she “went into prayer.”
“I went into prayer,” she told the magazine. “‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.”
“I had people—wealthy, billionaires—calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,” Winfrey revealed.
“That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’” she asked.
Winfrey told People that her best friend and co-host of CBS This Morning Gayle King has encouraged her to take the possibility seriously and she seems to be warming up to the idea more and more as time goes on.
President Trump in February tweeted that he hopes Winfrey will run against him just so the media mogul “can be exposed and defeated.”
He said at an event at the White House in January that he would have “a lot of fun” winning against Oprah, whom he said he likes and knows “very well.”
Speculation surrounding an Oprah 2020 White House bid made headlines after her speech at the Golden Globes in January.
During her acceptance speech of the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award, Winfrey talked about the #MeToo movement and proclaimed that “a new day is on the horizon," a message many took as a potential campaign rallying cry.
The hashtag "#Oprah2020" was trending on social media before the speech was even over.
Others in Hollywood who are rumored to be considering a run are Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and George Clooney.
President Trump has already announced his re-election bid for 2020 after naming his campaign manager on Tuesday.
