New York congressional candidate and socialist liberal darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a move this week that, had she been a conservative, likely would have landed her in the left’s crosshairs for at least a week: she banned the media from her town halls.

In her own district, no less.

The Queens Chronicle reports:

According to the Democratic nominee in the 14th Congressional District, she and the dozens of area residents who attended the event “talked about race, immigration, healthcare, disability rights and housing.”

But unless you were in the room on Sunday, you won’t know what specific community problems were mentioned or how Ocasio-Cortez planned to address them once she is sworn in.

That’s because her campaign banned members of the media from attending the event, which was otherwise open to the public.

“We wanted to help create a space where community members felt comfortable and open to express themselves without the distraction of cameras and press. These were the first set of events where the press has been excluded,” campaign spokesperson Corbin Trent said, claiming that banning the press from future events “will not be the norm.”

It’s no secret that Ocasio-Cortez has come under fire for several of her most recent press appearances – including that time she slammed Israel before admitting she didn’t know anything about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the interview in which she claimed unemployment is low because people are working two jobs, and her appearance on the Daily Show in which she claimed 200 million Americans make less than $20,000 a year.

So maybe her new “no-cameras” policy isn’t such a shock, after all.
