Obama Blames 'White Resistance and Resentment' for His Own Inability to Enact Reparations

Leave it to a race hustler to make blame the reason he didn’t enact a racist policy on the racism of others — in this case “white folks.”

Former President Barack Obama and rock and roll elitist Bruce Springsteen spoke about U.S. race relations on Monday during the second episode of their podcast, “Renegades: Born in the USA.”

The topic of reparations for black Americans came up and Obama couldn’t help blaming his own failure to enact a racist policy, that would essentially take the money of people who had nothing to do with slavery to give to black people — who themselves had nothing to do with slavery, on “white resistance and resentment.”

Obama said the following, according to Fox News:

And what I saw during my presidency was the politics of White resistance and resentment. The talk of 'welfare queens' and the talk of the 'undeserving' poor. And the backlash against affirmative action. All that made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent, meaningful reparations program struck me as, politically, not only a nonstarter but potentially counterproductive.

To be fair to the critics, welfare and affirmative action are racist policies, so there’s that. Welfare is designed to keep people in poverty, not give them a hand up out of it. And affirmative action doesn’t help anyone, because it guarantees hiring practices in places that utilize the policy — more times than not — are based on identity characteristics, not who’s best for the specific job regardless of color.

Obama’s argument is a lazy one, but that’s how people who operate solely based on identity characteristics — like race or sex — always seem to gain the upper hand. If you lack a “coherent” argument, blaming your own faults on the issues of race or sexism is an easy way out that diverts the attention away from the actual topic.

Fox News also noted Obama as saying it was “perfectly understandable why working-class White folks, middle-class White folks, folks who are having trouble paying the bills or dealing with student loans, wouldn't be too thrilled" about the prospect of "a massive program that is designed to deal with the past but isn't speaking to their future.”

Or maybe those “white folks” weren’t too pleased with essentially being called racists and having to pay for the sins of people long since passed — some of whom were black themselves.  Who pays reparations for the slaves black owners like Anthony Johnson and William Ellison owned?

Obama didn't always play the race card. When he was running for his first term as president in 2008, Obama sang a different tune in order to appeal to more voters.

"Is race still a factor in our society? Yes, I don't think anybody would deny that," Obama said in 2008. "Is that going to be the determining factor in a general election? No, because I'm absolutely confident that the American people -- what they're looking for is somebody who can solve their problems."

People like Obama, once they get into positions of some level of power, are always among the leftists who speak the loudest about ending racism, but they do more to keep it alive than what their spoken intent would indicate.
