During the first 31 days of Fiscal Year 2016, better known as the month of October, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) released 4,145 unaccompanied alien children (UACs) to sponsors living throughout the United States.

That’s a rate of about 134 illegal alien children the federal government sent per day into the United States to live, attend school, and receive certain government benefits courtesy of the American taxpayer. It also accounts for about 83 percent of the 4,973 UACs the administration said it apprehended at the border that same month.

If that trend were to continue at exactly the same pace during the rest of FY2016, roughly 50,000 UACs will be apprehended at the border, processed and released into the country. That would be on top of the 27,520 UACs the administration released to U.S.-based sponsors during the last fiscal year, and 53,518 it released in FY2014.

While the ORR has only released its October figures, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data clearly shows a recent surge in border crossings over the last few months. During the months of October and November, CBP apprehended 10,588 unaccompanied minors at the Southwest U.S. border – more than double the number of apprehensions reported during the same time period in FY2015.

The agency also reported it had already caught about 12,500 family units crossing the border illegally during October and November, nearly triple the roughly 4,500 family units the agency apprehended in the first two months of FY2015.
