Numbers for the amount of shootings in Chicago typically take a dip when the weather gets colder. But this past weekend’s numbers outpaced the previous three weekend’s totals, individually, despite fewer victims dying as a result of their wounds.
At least one person was killed and another 26 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend.
Here’s an example of this past weekend’s violence, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:
[A] 22-year-old man was shot to death Sunday inside a Subway restaurant on the Southeast Side.
Frank Corona was in the business [sic] at 2:05 a.m. in the 4000 block of East 106th Street when he was approached by a group of five or six males, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. They started to argue and someone in the group shot Corona in the head. The suspects left the area in a black SUV.
Corona was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
As mentioned earlier, the total number of people shot this past weekend were up from previous three weekends, with at least 18, 15, and 24 people being shot, respectively.
The running total of Chicago weekend shootings that MRCTV has kept since Memorial Day weekend is now up to at least 917 people being shot, with 130 victims dying.
The Chicago Tribune has been keeping tabs on the total number of shooting victims for the entirety of 2019. Their numbers state, as of November 9th, that 2,394 people have been shot so far in 2019.
As long as there’s little relief in sight for people in Chicago, I’ll keep reporting these numbers. Maybe someone besides the cops on the street will, eventually, take notice and begin to try and do something about this plague on the Second City.
